February 2014 – “sunny day” – The Blue Blue Whale by Simon Evans

Far, far away from where we are now is a big, blue sea. Right at the bottom of the sea is a great big sandy hole. In that hole lives a funny fat whale. The whale is blue. His name is the Blue Blue Whale. He has big, round eyes and a lovely, smiley face.

Every morning the Blue Blue Whale would wake up and stretch his big, blue fins like this. Stretch!

Then he would do a great big Blue Blue Whale yawn like this. Yawn!

Then he would eat some fat, juicy marrows. Yum, yum, whale’s bum.

Then he would smile a big Blue Blue Whale smile and brush his big whale teeth. Brush, brush, brush.

Then he would sing his favourite song.

Do you know how it goes? Do you want to hear it?

It goes like this;

At the bottom of the sea

Lives a funny fat whale

Wherever he goes

He sings his favourite song

And it goes like this, this, this

At the bottom of the sea

Lives a funny fat whale

Wherever he goes

He sings his favourite song

And that’s how it goes, goes, goes

One bright, sunny day the Blue Blue Whale woke up from a deep, dreamy sleep.

He stretched his big, blue fins. Stretch!

He did a big Blue Blue whale yawn. Yawn!

He ate a fat, juicy marrow. Yum, yum whale’s bum.

What did he do next?

He did a great, big, massive smile and brushed his great, big, massive whale teeth. Brush, brush, brush!

Then he put his hat on and visited his friends, the prawns.

The prawns were silly little pink things with googly eyes. They lived in a pink, plastic house.

“Hello Blue Blue Whale. How are you?” said all of the prawns.

“I’m big, happy and blue!” said the Blue Blue Whale.

Then he asked the prawns if they wanted to hear his song.

“Yes please!” said all the prawns.

“Then come with me to my brilliant underwater sing-along- a-sing- song” said the Blue Blue Whale.

So all the silly pink prawns followed the Blue Blue Whale as he went on his merry way.

Next he went to visit his other friends, the sharks.

These sharks were old and friendly and had no teeth. They lived in a yellow wobbly house made of rubber.

“Hello Blue Blue Whale. How are you?” said all the sharks, with no teeth.

“I’m big, happy and blue” said the Blue Blue Whale.

Then he asked the sharks if they wanted to hear his song.

“Yes please!” said all the sharks, with no teeth.

“Then come with me to my brilliant underwater sing-along-a-sing- song” said the Blue Blue Whale.

So the old, friendly sharks with no teeth joined the silly pink prawns as they all followed the Blue Blue Whale on his merry way.

Next he went to visit his other friend, Omar the Octopus.

Omar the Octopus was a strange chap as he was either crying or laughing. No one knew why. Omar the Octopus lived inside a red house made of jelly.

“Hello Blue Blue Whale. How are you?” said Omar the Octopus, with big wobbly tears in his eyes.

“I’m big, happy and blue” said the Blue Blue Whale.

Then he asked Omar the Octopus if he wanted to hear his song.

“Yes please!” chuckled Omar the Octopus.

“Then come with me to my brilliant underwater sing-along-a-sing- song” said the Blue Blue Whale.

So Omar the Octopus joined the friendly old sharks with no teeth and the little, pink prawns as they all followed the Blue Blue Whale on his merry way.

There was only one more friend left to meet. It was the Blue Blue Whale’s cousin, the Blue Blue Bear.

The Blue Blue Bear was a huge blue fluffy bear with yellow eyes and little ears on the top of his head. His face was big and smiley. The Blue Blue Bear lived in a caravan with a chimney.

The Blue Blue Bear couldn’t speak but he waved his big paws happily, span around and did a little dance when he saw his cousin and all their friends. He jumped out of his caravan, shut the door and joined Omar the Octopus, the friendly old sharks with no teeth and the little pink prawns as they all followed the Blue Blue Whale on his merry way.

They all finally arrived at the Blue Blue Whale’s favourite place – the great big sandy hole where he lived.

“Now is the time for my brilliant underwater sing-along-a-sing- song” said the Blue Blue Whale.

And then he sang his song to all of his friends – the Blue Blue Bear, Omar the Octopus, the friendly old sharks with no teeth and the little pink prawns.

Have you heard the song before? Do you remember how it goes?

It goes like this;

At the bottom of the sea

Lives a funny fat whale

Wherever he goes

He sings his favourite song

And it goes like this, this, this

At the bottom of the sea

Lives a funny fat whale

Wherever he goes

He sings his favourite song

And that’s how it goes, goes, goes

All of his friends clapped and cheered.

The Blue Blue Whale waved goodbye and disappeared into his hole to go to bed.

Then everyone else went home to bed. They were all happy and very sleepy.
